Visiting Chiang Mai with Expedia+ rewards points

One million of anything is exciting, but the idea of 1 million Expedia+ rewards points to travel anywhere in the world sent our imaginations into overdrive. We recently were asked to write about where we’d travel with this incredible prize, and with limitless possibilities we narrowed down our dream destination to somewhere exotic. Since neither of us has ever been to Thailand we decided we’d use the points to go where no member of the Midlife Road Trip has ever gone before: Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Chiang Mai is in the heart of the Lanna Kingdom, a part of Thailand known as “the land of a million rice fields.” The region also is known as the Rose of the North for its beauty and spirit.

If we had 1 million Expedia+ rewards points to book our trip, we’d book the trip using our Expedia App so we can earn three times the points for a future trip, and bundle our flights, hotel rooms, and rental car to get more bang for our points! We’d travel in style—business class of course—so we could stretch out and arrive rested and ready for our trip.

Viewfinder Tip: Book all of your travel using the Expedia App to earn three times the points for future trips.

Once we landed, we’d stay at the exclusive Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai, with spectacular views of the Suthep mountain range, tropical gardens, and rice paddies. The resort is the perfect setting for immersing ourselves in the culture, and it offers a number of classes to help ease the transition.

We’d start with the introductory Thai class so we can learn a couple useful phrases to help us interact with the locals. Then we’d try a class in northern Thai-style kickboxing to help burn off all of the calories we plan on consuming. We also would take a yoga class or two bring balance to our minds and bodies.

Eating Thai food in Thailand has been on our bucket list for a while. And we’d do plenty of that on our dream trip, too. We’d discover Thailand’s culinary secrets from a Thai master chef at the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai cooking school, and learn to prepare dishes such as pla tub tim nueng manaow (steamed ruby fish with chili lime sauce), ped ob café (deep-fried roasted duck with Lanna coffee sauce), and gaeng kiew warn goong (green curry with prawn, eggplant, sweet basil, and coconut milk).

We also would venture out from the resort to the Mae Sa Elephant Camp. While we’re out and about, we’ll check out Chiang Mai’s famous arts and crafts scene along the Sangkampaeng Road, and hit up the Kad Sum Murd (Midnight Market).

Before we headed home, we’d stop by the ultra-cool Nimmanhaemin to shop hip boutique stores, get a coffee with latte art, eat designer ice cream, and sip state-of-the-art cocktails.

While this million-point Thailand trip is just a fantasy for us, one Expedia customer has the opportunity to win 1 million Expedia+ rewards points to make a trip like this a reality. Five runners-up also will receive 100,000 points each. Visit Expedia.com for official rules, and to enter. Wishing you safe travels wherever your imagination takes you!
