7 must do’s for 7 days in Los Cabos

Los Cabos, Mexico. Just saying the name makes us think of paradise. Located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, this area is something of a dream vacation destination. With secluded white sandy beaches, luxury resorts, and endless nightlife, it attracts sun seekers of all ages who are ready to take advantage of everything that Los Cabos has to offer. From witnessing the power of the Pacific Ocean meeting the Sea of Cortez at the magnificent El Arco, to taking a sunset sail, or relaxing in a luxurious spa, there’s plenty of options to fulfill any vacation fantasy.

Los Cabos has plenty to keep you busy. If you’ve got a week, you can do something unique and different for each day of your stay. Having trouble deciding where to start? Here are some of our favorite outdoor activities that we think would fit well into an active vacation to the Baja Peninsula.

Surfing

Cabo is known for great year-round surf conditions. Surfing on the Sea of Cortez is best during the spring and summer months, while the Pacific side offers ideal conditions in the fall and winter. There are several outfits in the region offering surf lessons for beginners, while intermediate and expert surfers will find all the waves they could ever want to suit their needs.

Whale-Watching

Imagine witnessing the world’s largest mammal breaching before your eyes as it migrates to its winter habitat. Humpback and gray whales come to these parts to mate and give birth. From November to April you have the opportunity to see these whales in their natural habitat in both the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean. Cabo is considered one of the best places in the world for whale-watching and it’s not to be missed.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

If you are looking to try something new, stand up paddle boarding may be the thing for you, since it is one of the most popular new water sports. It’s easy to learn, fun to do, and a great workout. Get yourself on a long board, grab a paddle, and explore the coast on a paddle board. For first-timers, take a quick lesson where you’ll learn how to balance on the board and refine your paddling strokes. Paddle boarding is a fun and intense workout that is good for the whole family.

Viewfinder Tip: Check water conditions and be aware of riptides when doing water activities.

Fishing

The waters of Los Cabos offer some of the best sport fishing in the world. If you want to feel the power and strength of the creatures of the sea firsthand, take on a mighty fight with a marlin or swordfish to who comes out the winner in the end. Over 12,000 fish are caught each year in Los Cabos, but don’t worry, most are released after the trophy photo is taken and tweeted out to family and friends, proving that you are indeed the master of the sea.

Golf

All these water sports may have you craving a little solid land. So it’s time to move on shore to hit the links. In Los Cabos, you are never too far from the sea and many of its world class golf courses have magnificent views of the Sea of Cortez. Los Cabos has quickly become one of the hottest golf destinations in North America, attracting some of the top golfers in the circuit. It has even been the site of the PGA Senior Slam Tournament since 1995.

See the Desert

Go even farther inland to explore the desert. You’ll explore an entirely different world of a rugged landscape containing cacti, shrubs, and desert wildlife. There are many tour operators ready to take you out of the tourist area to explore the desert by ATV, Jeep, and even camel. Do your best “Lawrence of Arabia” impersonation as you journey deep into the Baja desert for a very unique adventure.

Zipline

Zipline adventures are popping up all over the world and Los Cabos is no exception. Book a tour and zip across canyons and fly over treetops from platform to platform. There are suspension bridges to traverse and you can also rappel down canyons located in the UNESCO protected biosphere. A zipline is a fun and safe way to get your adrenaline pumping while enjoying the beautiful scenery from above.

Narrowing down activities in Los Cabos to a mere seven is a difficult task. There is so much to do here that it can take several vacations to truly explore it all. No matter what you desire for your holiday or what your budget may be, you’ll be sure to find it when visiting the Southern tip of the Baja Peninsula.
