Expedia.com Expedia Radio Expands Its Reach to Over 2.5 million Listeners in 110 Markets

BELLEVUE, WA, June 13, 2000 – In a clear testament to its success, Expedia® Radio Network today announced expansion of its weekly, 1-hour nationally syndicated radio program into the top 20 markets, including expanded network carriage by CBS/Infinity Broadcasting, Clear Channel Communications, Inc. and AM/FM. Additionally, world-renowned travel expert Rudy Maxa will join the show as a weekly correspondent providing consumer advice and travel ideas. The station list can be found at: http://www.expedia.com/daily/radio/schedule.asp
Expedia Radio began broadcasting less than one year ago and will now extend its reach to over 2.5 million listeners each week. Debuting June 26, 1999 on 10 stations, Expedia Radio has grown in popularity and size, expanding to reach 110 markets including the top 20 markets in the United States.

“We're very excited with this expansion, which will allow millions to listen to a high-quality, information-rich radio show featuring the voices and sounds of great travel,” said Richard Bangs, editor-at-large of Expedia, Inc. “The show, and Expedia Travels, the upcoming print magazine in tandem with Ziff Davis, are natural evolutions for Expedia. These extensions show the strength of the Expedia brand and point to Expedia's role as a full travel planning resource. Our vision is to utilize both new and old media to make travel richer and more meaningful.”

Expedia also announced today that Rudy Maxa will join the show to discuss travel trends and give expert consumer advice. Host of public radio's “Savvy Traveler” and a key columnist for MSNBC, Maxa will join Expedia Radio as a weekly call-in correspondent.

“I'll take a look at the trends happening each week in travel—whether it's a fare war or airline consolidation—and explain what it means to leisure and business travelers. I'll also offer tips on how to put the fun back into traveling,” said Rudy Maxa.

Expedia Radio is a timely, in-depth travel news and information program. The weekly show offers features on all aspects of travel ranging from exotic vacation destinations to practical advice for weekend travelers. Expedia Radio also makes a unique cross media leap. Along with airing the show on the radio, archives can be found on Expedia.com and excerpts from the radio show are populated in relevant areas throughout Expedia.com. For example, interviews about Mardi Gras can be found in the New Orleans World Guide section. The program also allows listeners to participate by e-mailing questions to Expedia Radio via Expedia.com.

Seattle radio veterans Mike West and John Fisher host the show, which features travel correspondents bringing news and ideas from around the world and weekly celebrity guests who tell of their recent travels and favorite places to vacation. Past guests include Michael Douglas describing his frequent trips to Majorca, Spain; Kim Basinger discussing her trip to Africa; Jodie Foster talking about her travels to Malaysia; and Jane Goodall, who spoke of conservation and travel. Upcoming shows are scheduled to include Martin Sheen, Alicia Silverstone, David Duchovny, Danny DeVito, John Cusack, and Natalie Portman.
