5 ways to enjoy Tenerife at the beach

Tenerife is home to some of the nicest coastline in the Atlantic, and they don’t call it the Island of Eternal Spring for nothing. Whether you want white sands, black sands, or no sand, the combination of high massifs, volcanic pebbles, and fine-grained shores give the place a little bit of something for everybody. And if you’re looking for things to do in Tenerife while you’re out enjoying the sun, we’ve tracked down some of the best beach activities to help make your day.

Explore the coast in style. There’s nothing that helps you appreciate your time relaxing on the beach like a good adrenaline rush out at sea. The folks at Imagine Tenerife can help you out with that, thanks to a whole set of water adventures that let you see the sights in the most active way possible. You can ride a jet ski out for a spin under the cliffs, or get the view from above with a parascending trip. And if you want to get some altitude but also want to get a sense of what it’s like to have a rocket strapped to your feet, then maybe flyboarding is for you.

Meet the dolphins. Blankets and umbrellas and beach games are fun and all, but maybe you don’t want to spend all your time with other humans. In that case, you can head out to meet some of the world’s other cleverest mammals. Imagine Tenerife can take you on a cruise to see whales and dolphins along with the best of the island’s western coast, complete with lunch and some time for a swim. If you’d like a trip that adds in door-to-door service from Tenerife hotels on the south side of the island, then one of Viajes Teide’s catamarans is ready to go.

Dive into a lava pool. Tenerife’s north coast is still home to a stark landscape shaped by ancient volcanic rock, and that’s left some terrific natural reservoirs sheltered from the Atlantic waves. If you’ve got some time for some great scenery and a laid-back break, Imagine Tenerife has put together an outing that takes you right out to the shore for a day of relaxing by the water with some of the island’s best rocks.

Go submarining. Tenerife looks impressive enough above the water, but if you want to see another side of the place, then Viajes Teide has the trip for you. An underwater safari takes you down aboard a spacious vessel that’s lined with huge viewing windows and TV monitors linked to cameras outside the boat, so you can see all the fish, shipwrecks, and scuba divers around while you cruise by.

Inner peace? There’s something about all the tropical nature and ocean that can be a big help when you’re finding your inner zen, so a trip to Tenerife is the perfect time to give yoga a go . Laura Fitness runs an outdoor class where you’ll hone your poses on the peaceful, grassy parkland under the palm trees by Playa del Duque, so you’ve got a perfect place to rejuvenate. You can work on your breathing with the warm sea air and get a real feel for how proper meditation gets done.
