5 ways to enjoy Tenerife at the beach
They don't call it the Island of Eternal Spring for nothing!
Tenerife is home to some of the nicest coastline in the Atlantic, and they don’t call it the Island of Eternal Spring for nothing. Whether you want white sands, black sands, or no sand, the combination of high massifs, volcanic pebbles, and fine-grained shores give the place a little bit of something for everybody. And if you’re looking for things to do in Tenerife while you’re out enjoying the sun, we’ve tracked down some of the best beach activities to help make your day.
Explore the coast in style. There’s nothing that helps you appreciate your time relaxing on the beach like a good adrenaline rush out at sea. The folks at Imagine Tenerife can help you out with that, thanks to a whole set of water adventures that let you see the sights in the most active way possible. You can ride a jet ski out for a spin under the cliffs, or get the view from above with a parascending trip. And if you want to get some altitude but also want to get a sense of what it’s like to have a rocket strapped to your feet, then maybe flyboarding is for you.
Meet the dolphins. Blankets and umbrellas and beach games are fun and all, but maybe you don’t want to spend all your time with other humans. In that case, you can head out to meet some of the world’s other cleverest mammals. Imagine Tenerife can take you on a cruise to see whales and dolphins along with the best of the island’s western coast, complete with lunch and some time for a swim. If you’d like a trip that adds in door-to-door service from Tenerife hotels on the south side of the island, then one of Viajes Teide’s catamarans is ready to go.
Dive into a lava pool. Tenerife’s north coast is still home to a stark landscape shaped by ancient volcanic rock, and that’s left some terrific natural reservoirs sheltered from the Atlantic waves. If you’ve got some time for some great scenery and a laid-back break, Imagine Tenerife has put together an outing that takes you right out to the shore for a day of relaxing by the water with some of the island’s best rocks.
Go submarining. Tenerife looks impressive enough above the water, but if you want to see another side of the place, then Viajes Teide has the trip for you. An underwater safari takes you down aboard a spacious vessel that’s lined with huge viewing windows and TV monitors linked to cameras outside the boat, so you can see all the fish, shipwrecks, and scuba divers around while you cruise by.
Inner peace? There’s something about all the tropical nature and ocean that can be a big help when you’re finding your inner zen, so a trip to Tenerife is the perfect time to give yoga a go . Laura Fitness runs an outdoor class where you’ll hone your poses on the peaceful, grassy parkland under the palm trees by Playa del Duque, so you’ve got a perfect place to rejuvenate. You can work on your breathing with the warm sea air and get a real feel for how proper meditation gets done.
Where to stay:
When it comes to exploring Tenerife, a stay at one of the Expedia +VIP Access hotels is a must, and the Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque belongs at the top of your list. Overlooking the ocean, this luxury property has sublime pools that stretch toward the horizon. Rise each day out of your canopy-style bed and listen to the sea wash over pristine sandy beaches. If the Atlantic beckons, you’ll find an array of sea-going activities. With stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, and scuba diving, you’ll have no shortage of maritime memories from your stay. This high-end resort doesn’t just cater to sea-faring guests though, as you can spend an afternoon hitting the links or practicing your best backhand at the on-site tennis courts.
Have the whole family in tow? No problem. Roca Nivaria Gran Hotel has everything to make your visit perfect for you and your kin. It’s easy to keep cool and have fun with your family in the children’s pool, or take advantage of the complimentary beach shuttle for a day in the sunshine. This hotel doesn’t just have kids in mind. Childcare services (with a surcharge) are available so you can get some adult time in during your stay. Pamper yourself with a visit to the spa for a relaxing massage or facial. And when the sun sets, dress in your best for a festive evening at the nightclub.
Meanwhile, if you’re in Tenerife on a romantic getaway, the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey is the ultimate +VIP Access hotel for you. Its beautiful architecture and thoughtful service set the scene for a trip you won’t forget. Sun-kissed skies easily slide into starlit nights as you spend a day getting a massage, floating in a pool, wine tasting, or dining on world-class cuisine—all without leaving the hotel grounds. When you want to explore more of Tenerife, you’ll find an afternoon of shopping and sightseeing just a few steps away. Upon your return, grab a nightcap at one of the three bars or stroll through terraced gardens to see what the resident turtles are up to for the evening.
Whether you are here to soak up as much sun as possible, or to experience this island’s rich culture, there is no shortage of ways to enjoy your stay in Tenerife.
