In Haiti with Passports with Purpose

Let me preface this post by saying that I love the more laid-back, splurge-worthy elements of travel, be it a massage on the beach, a fancy schmancy cocktail, or a nice meal. What traveler doesn’t? Yet the motto of Expedia’s “Find Yours” campaign advocates for a type of travel that goes beyond that, where every trip is personal and unique, with the potential to even be transformational. So today we highlight Passports with Purpose and the work they’ve recently been doing in Haiti with Water.org.

Passports with Purpose is an annual travel bloggers’ fundraiser that raises money for a different organization each year. Past projects have included building school libraries in Zambia, a village in India, and a school in rural Cambodia. Passports with Purpose partners with travel bloggers from around the world to raise money for these projects through their own social networks and blogs. This year saw bloggers and Passports with Purpose come together to raise over $100,000 to build wells in Haiti.

It only seemed natural that with Expedia’s “Find Yours” mantra, combined with their partnership with bloggers, that Expedia would partner with Passports with Purpose. So we recently sent some of the folks from Passports with Purpose down to Haiti where the money raised last year is being put to use to build wells and strengthen communities. I’d rather not bore you any more talking about it, when I can instead show you and let you be inspired by their work. Click on the video to see more from their trip.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with Passports with Purpose. They have recently announced their 2013 project, which will be with buildOn to build schools in Mali. This year they’ll be partnering with bloggers to raise $120,000 to construct schools in Mali. Visit Passports with Purpose’s website for more information.
