Mobile transformation at Expedia

Expedia has undergone tremendous technology changes over the past few years to improve the travel experience for our customers and partners around the world.

We’ve detailed the most important and notable updates here on the Expedia Viewfinder blog to help you take better advantage of all the exciting new features and services Expedia offers when planning, booking and even experiencing a trip. But there’s so much more behind the scenes that enables us to deliver a best-in-class travel experience for people across all devices.

To help make sense of it all, I recently sat down with John Kim, chief product officer for Expedia worldwide, to hear his thoughts and perspectives on why the company has chosen to invest so much in mobile technology. John and I also talked about what Expedia ultimately hopes to achieve through its relentless focus on testing and commitment to enhancing Expedia’s mobile sites and apps.

John leads Brand Expedia’s overall product development efforts including our consumer facing website, mobile app, Hotel, Air, Car, and Activities supplier systems. With more than 18 years of experience as a digital media executive (he’s held previous positions at Yahoo!, Pelago, Medio, and Bank of America), he’s a wealth of knowledge about the tech industry.

IMHO, John also is the best person at the company to shed light on all the different ways Expedia is using its industry heritage and vast travel expertise combined with new mobile technologies to meet the needs of millions of travelers around the globe. We encourage you to watch this brief video to get a firsthand look at Expedia’s recent technology transformation and why that transformation is so important to the future of travel.
