Determining the best viewing spots in the area

On August 21, people in certain areas of United States will witness a spectacular cosmic happening. For the first time in 38 years, a total solar eclipse will occur. Those living in or traveling to the path of totality, which is where the moon will completely block out the sun, will experience a few moments of complete darkness during the day. However, those who live elsewhere in the country will still be able to view a breathtaking partial eclipse.

In Louisville, Kentucky, the eclipse will begin at 12:59 p.m., peak at 2:27 p.m., and conclude at 3:51 p.m. Although the Gateway to the South won’t witness a true total eclipse, the city will temporarily have 96 percent of the sun blocked from view.
