“Easy does it. Raise the rod up, swing it back, pause. Swing it forward. Pause. Back. Forward. And let that line sail out into the water. Take a deep breathe. Practice patience.“
This was the meditation I learned, spending the afternoon with the team over at the Glacier Outdoor Center, in West Glacier, Montana. It is headquarters of the Glacier Rafting Company that takes locals and travelers on thrilling white water rafting trips down local rivers, in and around Glacier National Park, fly fishing along the way. What an immersive way to experience the Montana wilderness!
On this occasion, I was meeting with their fly-fishing pros for a basic lesson from their on-property ponds. Each pond is stocked with rainbow trout and fished only as catch and release. This controlled environment was a perfect place for my introduction to the sport.
Watch the video to see if I was successful and learn some of the basics for yourself.
