(0:56 in the video) Pay a visit to this ultra-fresh urban market and restaurant area and let your tastebuds lead you through all the culinary delights of northern Japan. Sapporo is widely considered to be Japan’s seafood capital. At Sapporo Crab Market, seafood is the prized produce and it doesn’t get much fresher than here. Join locals and in-the-know foodies at this curbside market, which sells supplies to take home as well as a variety of snacks to enjoy on site.
(1:28 in the video) This museum is dedicated to one of the most popular beer brands in Japan. The Sapporo Beer Company was established in the late 19th century and is one of Japan’s first breweries. The preserved factory from the Meiji-period was transformed into the Sapporo Beer Museum where, today, visitors can learn about the beer industry, brewing processes and history of the famous brand. Leave enough room in your travel itinerary for the tastings offered at the end of the brewery tour.
(1:50 in the video) One of the best things to do in Sapporo for families, couples and sweet tooths is visit Shiroi Koibito Park. This chocolate theme park is operated by the same confectionary company that produces one of Japan’s most famous sweets, the Shiroi Koibito cookie. In the park, visitors can check out the chocolate-related exhibits and see for themselves the production process of these famous (and delicious) Hokkaidō souvenirs.

Ride the innovative aerial lifts 1,742 feet above Sapporo to the summit of Mount Moiwa. This forested rock formation provides spectacular views of Hokkaidō Island, including the dazzling city center and beyond to Ishikari Bay. Enjoy the theater, planetarium and upscale restaurant here. Winter brings a whole new dimension of fun as this imposing mountain becomes a ski slope.

Wander this open-air museum of wooden cabins and old mansions and be transported back to life on the island over a century ago. Learn about the communities and admire the traditional architecture of Hokkaidō during the Meiji and Taisho periods, from maritime villages to mountain villages. Don’t miss a chance to see the exhibits at the Hokkaidō Museum, just a 15-minute walk away.

This long, lush municipal park spans 12 city blocks down the center of Sapporo and is both a prime picnic spot and premier venue for festivals throughout the year. Whether you’re looking to admire the blooming lilacs in spring, or marvel at the famous Sapporo Snow Festival* delights, Odori Park is one of the best places to visit in Sapporo.

The observation deck of the 480-foot iron structure, Sapporo TV Tower, has leant its hand to some of the most famous pictures of Sapporo, from the city skyline to the distant snow-capped mountains beyond. The tower is a renowned and beloved landmark in the city center just off of Odori Park.

Originally Susukino served as Sapporo’s red-light district, but today, is a lively destination for dining and nightlife. It has hosted the Winter Olympics, the Universiade Winter Games and other major winter sports events with great success.
