Unique hotels in the Pacific Northwest

Oh, our beloved Pacific Northwest, a region in the United States that’s synonymous with craft brews, ubiquitous coffee, and the great outdoors. While Washington and Oregon are home to the bustling cities of Seattle and Portland with their fancy hotels, it’s the unique accommodations outside of the big cities that really catch our eye.

Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, avid adventurer, or just a pet-loving traveler, there’s a unique place to stay for everyone in the PNW.

Rolling huts

Lovers of the outdoors will find themselves swooning over Rolling Huts in Washington’s Methow Valley. There are six huts, each boasting a stunning view of the Cascade mountains. The huts are outfitted with modern conveniences like microwaves, refrigerators, coffee pots, and even Wi-Fi. If that weren’t enough, there’s a fireplace in each hut to fight off the chill in the colder months. Portable toilets are located right outside of each hut while full bathrooms and showers are located in the barn just a short walk away.

The Rolling Huts of Washington’s Methow Valley

The towns of Twisp, Winthrop, and Mazama are all located nearby. Be sure to pop into Three Fingered Jack’s Saloon in Winthrop to grab a drink at the state’s oldest legal saloon. And if cross-country skiing is your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that Methow Valley is home to one of the longest cross-country skiing trails at over 120 miles long.

Yurts 

Cave B Estate Winery & Resort in Quincy, Washington, boasts an array of accommodations to choose from. With over 55 guest rooms, the estate gives you the choice between 15 cliff houses, 12 cavern rooms, three inn suites, and our personal favorite, the 25 desert yurts.

The canvas yurts are located just a 10-minute walk away from the Cave B Inn’s main lodge. Each yurt is outfitted with its own private bathroom, mini fridge, sitting area, patio, and king-size bed (although two yurts come with two queen-size beds). As if being surrounded by vineyards isn’t enough, the yurts are conveniently located near the Gorge Amphitheatre and in the midst of the abundant wildlife of eastern Washington. This, my friends, is “glamping” at its finest.

Glamping

Speaking of glamping, Pampered Wilderness is the epitome of luxury camping in Washington state. Located in Millersylvania State Park in Olympia, Washington, Pampered Wilderness offers its guests the feeling of sleeping in the great outdoors with the comforts of home. Choose between six cabins, each boasting its own unique theme. My personal favorite is the “Shabby Chic” cabin, outfitted with its own chandelier.

Viewfinder Tip: To grab one of these eclectic rooms at a discounted price, try traveling in the fall or winter months when sales are readily available.

Each canvas cabin comes with a mini fridge, barbecue, heater, and microwave while guests are typically greeted with gourmet popcorn and all of the fixings to make s’mores. Guests are able to burn off those sweet calories with the ample amount of hiking, swimming, and kayaking available in Millersylvania State Park. Even your furry friends can join in on the fun as pets are also allowed to glamp right alongside you.

Tepees

Four towering hand-painted tepees greet guests at RimRock Inn, located 35 miles outside of Enterprise, Oregon. Each tepee varies in size and can comfortably fit four to six adults. Futon mattresses are laden with Pendleton Woolen Mills bedding and fluffy down alternative comforters. Shared bathrooms and indoor showers are also available nearby.

View the stars outside your tepee palace and stay warm with the nearby chiminea fire pits. During the day, take in the stunning panoramic views of the Joseph Creek canyon. A continental breakfast will greet you in the morning, and for a small fee, you can even bring along your four-legged friends.

Tree houses

Truly immerse yourself in nature by staying in one of the tree houses at Vertical Horizons Bed and Breakfast in Cave Junction, Oregon. Each tree house is nestled high in the forest and offers all of the comforts of home. One could spend their entire stay in the trees if it weren’t for the scrumptious breakfasts that greet guests every morning.

Seasonal activities are offered, including mushroom picking, white-water rafting, and watching the fall salmon run. A disc golf course is available year-round, though it might be hard to tear yourself from your lofty palace in the trees.
